This is the question that I get asked the most. In my personal life, in my business, and in my free discovery calls.

Naturopathy is a practice where we support the body’s innate ability to heal itself. We work holistically, looking at the whole body, emotional & mental health, diet and lifestyle. The body is so complex! When given the right conditions, the body wants to strive for wellness, healing & homeostasis – and our goal as Naturopaths is to get it there.

There are multiple triggers which can get in the way of the body’s natural healing abilities. There is always some kind of explanation for why symptoms or medical conditions develop in the body.

As a Naturopath, my goal is to identify:

  • What’s happening in the body that’s leading to your symptoms &/or condition?
  • What caused that to happen?
  • What’s getting in the way of the body healing?
  • What does the body need to find homeostasis again?

So, you might say that Naturopaths are a bit like detectives, trying to get to the bottom of exactly what’s happening, and then finding the solution that is suitable specifically for you. And the solution? Well, it varies client to client, but I always strive to get there in the simplest way possible, using natural methods.

What tools do Naturopaths use?

This may vary a bit between different Naturopaths, but here’s what I use:

  • Herbal medicine
  • Nutritional medicine
  • Dietary changes
  • Lifestyle changes

I believe that the best way to empower you with wellness is to work step by step to support you in creating a healthful lifestyle that you can benefit from throughout your life. The best way to do this? Moving slowly. Bite sized chunks of change that we implement over a few weeks until you’re ready for the next bite sized chunk. I like to take a collaborative approach when it comes to designing a treatment plan – I have ideas of what I think would be good for the client’s healing process & I ask things along the lines of what the client’s goals are, if this treatment plan suits them, what their budget is for natural medicines (although I will only ever prescribe what I think is necessary and no more) & how they are going taking their products.

The 6 Naturopathic Principles –

  • The healing power of nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae)
  • Identify and treat the cause (Tolle Causam)
  • First do no harm (Primum Non Nocere)
  • Doctor as teacher (Docere)
  • Treat the whole person (Tolle Totum)
  • Prevention (Preventare)

I will explore what each of these mean in another blog, as it’s quite a big & important topic. It was Vis Medicatrix Naturae which sparked my love for Naturopathy, however each of the 6 principles are equally as important and are a focus within my Naturopathic Clinic in Croydon.
